The adventures of Thundercat

Posted in Diary Entries at 11:02 am by Nicole

These last few days have been a very upsetting, unfortunately.  On Sunday night after we got home from our gymnastics competition weekend we couldn’t find Thunder.  It wasn’t like him not to come and say hi to us when we walked through the door.  I searched up and down and finally found him beside his litter box in obvious distress.  The best way to describe it was “constipated”.  We thought he might have just a bathroom issue so we let him be.  At about 10pm I found him hiding upstairs in the closet with his tummy very hard and noticeably “clenching”.  We watched him for about half an hour when we decided to call the emergency vet department for help.  They said to bring him in immediately.  Funny enough, we thought it was due to an elastic band he may have eaten a couple days prior.

Once at the vet, they decided he should spend the night so they could preform a bunch of tests ($1000 worth) and monitor his condition.  We picked him up the next day to deliver him to his normal vet.  At that time we found out it wasn’t the elastic but it was kidney stones.  We got to see the xray of the stones and learned that they can either be dissolved, passed or removed.  Both Simon and I stayed home from work…he used a vacation day, I was super sick.  I slept for most of the day….  We checked in with the vet to hear what awaits for Thunder.

The vet decided halfway through the day that the only way to get rid of the type of stones he had was surgery.  He spent the night at the vet and removed his IV all by himself!!  I called in for an update today, he will be sedated at 1030am and will find out the news shortly afterwards.  Lighting  and his parents both miss him very much.
