Another Day Another Drooler

So the cat seems to be perking up a bit. He peed almost normally overnight which is a real relief but we are still on high alert. He had another pill this morning which was easy compared to trying to give him the painkiller caplet last night. I remember when I was young my mum used to tell us stories about her dog who would take the pill, then wander off and spit it out of the side of his mouth. Lightning has learned this trick. He struggles like he is sick having to swallow and then relaxes as if he has finally given in. Then as he stands up, out pops the pill. So there you are with cat drool all over your fingers, a sticky caplet and a recalcitrant cat.

Speaking of drool… Elyse is officially in love with her feet. She loves to grab them, eat them, even stick them in her eye. She has no interest in much else except her jumper which she loooooooves. It is such a joy to come home at the end of the day and see how genuinely excited she is to see me. There is nothing I have found that will lift your spirits quite the way a smiling baby does. Not only a smiling baby, but YOUR smiling baby who, you can tell, realizes it is you and is just so happy to see you. Nothing like it, melts your heart.

I was 263.2 this morning. That means I am down 18.8lbs since Thanksgiving (5 weeks ago). I am utterly speechless with how and why I am losing weight. I guess it is true what they say about processed foods being terrible for weight gain. I feel so much better not having sugar, and although it was not a conscious effort not to have sugar, everything I was eating had sugar, liquid invert sugar, modified corn syrup or glucose/fructose syrup in it. It is amazing to see the list of ingredients in foods, not only adult food but also baby foods. The first ingredients are almost always wheat, sugar and corn, all of which will spike your insulin and lead to heart disease and diabetes. it’s sad, but true.

You want the simple secret? Here it is. You can eat whatever you want but only AFTER you have eaten the following:

4 apples, 4 bananas, 4 pears, 4 cups of cabbage, 2 cups of broccoli, 2 cups of carrots, 6 ounces of lean meat, 6 ounces of fish, 2 cups of skim milk, 6 whole dates and 20 almonds. If you don’t finish the list, start again tomorrow. It really is that simple. For the record, my last couple of weeks or so of foods are laid out in detail here: FitDay

Once you resign yourself to the fact that you simply cannot eat enough to keep your weight up you will start to realize just how easy being healthy is without processed food. If it comes in a package, don’t eat it. If you have a sweet tooth, don’t worry, fruit is sweet enough, You can drink tea and coffee no problem and if you crave chocolate, put some cocoa powder (unsweetened) into your skim milk. All you have to do is obey a simple rule, if the caveman couldn’t gather or hunt it to eat it, then you can’t. That means no potato, corn, wheat or sugar but believe me, you won’t miss it. If you are interested in more, look up the paleo diet on the internet but in simple terms, try to eat more whole food and less processed crap.
